Oct 2014/ Contract awarded for Maritime Security Training Tanzania

OGI wins subcontract award to develop and instruct courses on maritime safety, security, seamanship, boat handling, vessel interdiction, and small boat operations to the Tanzanian Border Police in an effort to deter and defeat smuggling of people and illicit cargo across Lake Victoria. Three phase training effort focusing on basic law enforcement procedures and operations and including participants from the Great Lakes region, Dar es Salaam, and Zanzibar.  The courses were conducted at the Tanzania Maritime Security Training Academy (MSTA).  The MSTA was developed through a joint effort of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) and Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) support and the Tanzania Police Force.  MSTA is located on Lake Victoria in the Mwanza region of Tanzania and is convenient for supporting regional training opportunities with neighboring Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi.  This training supports the U.S. Government’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program.  EXBS is designed to stem proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, and irresponsible transfers of conventional weapons, by assisting countries in establishing effective strategic trade and border control systems meeting international standards.
